Nearly 43% of Gran Canaria’s territory is protected and has been declared a “Biosphere Reserve”. Therefore, a great offer of environmentally friendly tourism has been developed in the island respecting nature and its fragile condition. An example of this is the network of refurbished, characterful rural houses and fincas for self catering holidays and the wide array of leisure activities ranging from adventure sports like climbing to treks along recently recovered old paths belonging to the cultural and historic heritage of the island.

This is why Patronato de Turismo de Gran Canaria, Federación de Empresarios de Hostelería, Turismo de Las Palmas and industry professionals launched in 2004 the ambitious project Gran Canaria Natural. Thanks to this association between the public and private sector we are aiming to join efforts focused towards the same goal: the promotion of Gran Canaria as a natural destination.

Gran Canaria Natural brings together a tourism offer focused on nature which comprises rural hotels, guest houses and holiday rentals located in a natural environment. This is complemented by companies that offer outdoor and natural activities. The result is a great destination offering family holidays, self catering holidays and short breaks in rural country houses and rural hotels.
